Big MLM Tip of the Day - MLM Company Market Position

This is not as confusing as it may sound. What is the current state of the market served by this company? Are there indications of what may happen in that market in the future?

Let me give you an example. Today, in states that have deregulated electric service, you have MLM companies popping up all over the place who are reselling power. They would buy it wholesale and resell it retail, giving their distributors a cut of the profit.

Sounds fine so far right? Not so fast. We already have a historical reference for this.

In the mid 80's, the same thing happened with long distance service. Bell Telephone was broken up and the market was opened to competition. MLM companies popped up almost overnight to take advantage of it. They too were buying wholesale and reselling retail, giving a share of the profits to their distributors. Most did not make it long because of the legal battles that followed the break up of the Bell companies, but some went on for a while after.

Eventually, rates got so low that there were no margins to pay distributors. Today, with most people having a flat fee for unlimited long distance, such businesses are but a distant memory.

It is a safe assumption that electric power deregulation will have similar results. I don't know if electrical power rates will ever drop that low, although I wish they would, but they will not have to drop far to eliminate the margins required to pay commissions.

These companies may make a lot of money for a while, but their odds of being around 5, 10 or more years are slim to none.

No matter what your niche, analyze what the market is doing. Do not simply listen to what the company says, do your own research. With MLM Companies selling everything from vitamins to cell phones; water filters to travel packages, be sure you know what you are getting into before signing on the dotted line.

MLM Tip - Best MLM Opportunities - MLM Company Research

Okay, you have found a company that appears to be one of the Best MLM Opportunities today. Now it is time to do a little MLM Company Research

Yesterday we talked about the MLM Comp Plan. Today we want to go a little deeper into researching the company and its leadership. Google is your friend when performing MLM Company ResearchIf you dig enough, you can find anything about anyone or any company.

I usually start by finding out how long the company has been in business. Anything under two years is a red flag since the odds are it will not be around that long.

Next, check out the company leadership. Are they from the MLM world or fortune 500? This makes a Big difference. The corporate guys have a hard time spelling MLM.

We talked last week about analyzing MLM Compensation Plans. That would be the next thing to look at.

After these, you will want to take a look at the company’s position in the market, and what the market is doing in that niche. This will be our topic for tomorrow.

Happy 4th of July!

I just wanted to drop a quick note here to wish everyone here in the US a happy 4th of July.

I could not help but think, this morning, about how so many of the "business opportunities" out there so closely resemble a bottle rocket. They take off like a rocket (of course), and shoot really high very quickly. Sadly, many have the same result as a bottle rocket. They are really exciting for a brief moment in time, and make a huge flash, but burn out just as quickly as they launched.

If you have spent any time at all around the IM and MLM industries you have surely seen many of these come and go. If not, go surf some traffic exchanges. You will see the same program over and over for a few weeks, but a month or two later, you never hear of it again. Of course, it was hyped as the "Next Best Thing".

These programs offer the moon, but are unsustainable. Even many of the ones that do last more than a few months struggle once the initial hype has blown over. Most of the people who are duped into these programs get in within the first few weeks, and anyone who comes along promoting it thereafter has a hard time recruiting anyone because it is already saturated.

Here are a few things to look out for when viewing potential opportunities (and I use that word very loosely here).

  • If they make any claim about making a certain amount of money in a given duration of time, don't fall for it.
  • "Prelaunch": I've spoken about this one before. I would never consider any opportunity under 2 years old.
  • "Spillover": A buzz word that will kill a business. This word promotes a welfare mentality. Sure, it sound good, but people get in expecting something for nothing, and nothing is exactly what they do. When everyone else below them (if they get anyone below them) does nothing as well, they quit.
  • Wacky comp plan: There are all sorts of crazy comp plans out there. Learn more about spotting them on my MLM Compensation Plans page.
These are but a few things to watch out for.  If you want to learn more about what to watch out for, I strongly suggest you read the eBook "Success in 10 Steps". After I read it, I had a whole new perspective on how to do business online, and you will too.

Again, Happy 4th of July!

See you all tomorrow.

Best MLM Opportunities - MLM Comp Plans

When trying to find the Best MLM Opportunities out there, Comp plans is probably the most confusing part.

Many veteran network marketers have a hard time understanding them. For the newbie, MLM Comp Plans are as complicated as advanced calculus. The good news is, they can be broken down quite easily.

The Best MLM Opportunities out there will always use a unilevel plan, no matrix, binary, 2-up or any of that nonsense.

From there, it is simply a matter of figuring how much they pay per level, residual, to figure out how many people you need to hit your income goal. Ignore all the bonuses for now. Most of those are not residual and many you will not qualify for anytime soon.

If you want more info on the different types of MLM comp plans, check out the MLM Compensation Plans page of this blog.

Big MLM Tip of the Day - Watching Your Indicators

Today we are going to talk about your site. Are you keeping an eye on the indicators that are available to you for tracking your site's progress? If not you are flying blind.

Tools like Google analytics and alexa.com are available for your use, so take advantage of them.

I recommend, as a general rule, checking your stats on each once a week. Sometimes I may check on them for a few days in a row if I am trying some specific traffic generating methods.

I won't go into detail about the many different stats you can view on these sites. I know most people would tune out if I did. The main information you want to grasp is, how much traffic you are getting. You can also find out about your target market and even what time of day people are visiting your site.

This information will help when you are promoting your site.It will help you learn more about your target market as well as what campaigns are working best.
