Your brain is a highly complex series of electrical connections, making it the most advanced computer ever devised. Experiences form memories, which are stored much like data on a computer. Repeated suggestion to your subconscious builds little programs that are triggered to run automatically to certain stimuli.
For example, think of the last time you went shopping for a car. When the salesman first approached, what was your response? If you are like most of us, you are on your guard before you step onto the lot. Once the salesman approaches, you are overly cautious and very careful of what you say. No matter how much you like the car, you will not show it and you are as indirect as possible when answering the sales person's pre-qualifying questions.
These responses were triggered by the subconscious mind, and the conscious mind acted upon them. This is what I meant by the programs that run in your head. Your subconscious, when confronted with the situation, instinctively ran a series of programs as a defense mechanism.
Now, let's look at another example that you surely face almost daily. You get an email or social media message from someone wanting to "share" this "amazing new opportunity". What is your first response? Those of us who spend a good deal of time marketing online see this regularly, so there is some pretty serious programming written in our brains to combat this. Your subconscious immediately puts you on guard. Your first though is likely something along the lines of "Yeah right" or "Not another one of these".
Now think about it, if you respond that way, don't you think most of your prospects are having the same thoughts about your promotions? Sure they are.
So ask yourself this question: "Am I speaking to my prospects conscious or subconscious mind?" Through proper word sequencing, you can override those defensive programs and speak directly to the subconscious.
Need more info on word sequencing? Email me with "word sequence" in the subject line and I will send you a link to a free newsletter series that I have been following. You will learn tips on how to override that programming and speak directly to the subconscious mind.
Remember, you are what you think about. What are you thinking about?
Great, great read. Thanks Bill. Just makes me realize that I have to read more of Mentoring For Free.
ReplyDeleteThis is something that we never reflect on and can be useful. For example, last year, I decided to nt buenos aires apartments to spend a few months there. It would be of great to remember what my reaction was to the reprsentative of the rental company to know more about the way I act in these kind of situations!
