Big MLM Tip of the Day: Is Your Team Motivated?

3 days ago we talked about keeping yourself motivated. 

2 days ago we spoke about being a leader. 

Well, today we want to look at how a leader motivates a team. 

As a leader, it is your job to help your team members determine their own "Why", and remind them of it when discouragement starts to creep in. 

We all get discouraged at times, the trick is to have a big enough "Why" that the obstacles you face will be easily overcome. 

If your reason for doing this is strong enough, nothing will be able to stand in your way. 

Tomorrow we will talk about how to define a "Why" so strong that you will be ready to take on the world.

Big MLM Tip of the Day: Be a Leader

There are two types of people in this world: Leaders and Followers. 

The good news is you can always change your category. 

There is nothing extra special about a leader. They simply had the right training and took advantage of the opportunities that were presented to them. Few people are leaders by nature. They had to work at it.

So, if all you need is training and the willingness to seize opportunity, what is stopping you?

Big MLM Tip of the Day: Staying Motivated

Keeping yourself motivated can be a real struggle at times. Things do not always go as well as you would like. 

Your prospecting efforts could be lagging so that you are not getting as many leads as you were. 

Maybe you have sponsored some people who are not active. Remember, almost 3/4 of your team will be product users only, and this is okay.

Sometimes daily life can just get to be so draining that you have a hard time finding motivation to get things done. This is a particular struggle for the part timer. 

It is frequently hard to get motivated to work o your business in the evening when you spent all day working at the day job. 

A lot of people will tell you that you need a BIG dream to keep you motivated. They recommend visiting a local Ferrari dealer or touring large houses to help build your dream. 

While that may help a little, most people are still so far away from such a lofty dream that this can often backfire and leave a person feeling less motivated simply because it seems unattainable. 

What you really need is to establish a solid "WHY". WHY do you want to succeed in your business?

Big MLM Tip of the Day: Readers are Leaders

While it is true, those who like to read are more likely to be natural leaders, leadership does not rely on it. 

It is highly recommended that you do some reading (I even recommend several books). Even if reading is not something you enjoy, you can still be a leader. 

Read when you can and encourage others to do the same. I suggest you start with Success in 10 Steps.

The benefits will be great.

Big MLM Tip of the Day: The Dollar a Month Club

I don't want to mention any company name, but you have surely seen these programs. 

You can earn a whole dollar per month per referral down through X number of levels. 

At $1 per referral, it would take forever to get anywhere. What makes it worse; these programs have about a 98% attrition rate. 

That means that if you wanted to make $1000 a month, you would need to have had over 50 thousand people recruited into your group to have 1000 who stick around. Look at your comp plan. What would it take for you to make $1000 a month?

Pretty good odds huh?

Contact Info Added to the About Me Page

I wanted to let everyone know that I added my contact information to the bottom of the About Me page.

As well as an email address, I also added links to my profiles on several social media sites. I will add links to more social media sites in the near future. Feel free to come check me out all over the web. As of this moment, a Google search of my name brings back this blog as the first listing on the 2nd page. In the first 5 pages, there are only 2 links that reference someone else with my name (imagine that).

Big MLM Tip of the Day: This One Word Can Ruin a Busiess

If you see a site promoting "spillover", it will be almost impossible to build a long term business there. 

The word spillover implies something for nothing. This will attract people who are looking for exactly that, something for nothing. Following such a model is a recipe for mlm failure.

Such a welfare mentality will not help. You will be forced to build under that person, and likely fill a downline full of people looking for an easy way out. 

Another thing to avoid along these same lines is any program that tells you they will "pay your way in". The same thing applies. 

What is to keep these people engaged? Nothing, they never were engaged. People will drop out as fast as they come on. 

Something for nothing does not exist.

There is more than enough hype out there to go around. Try being different. 

Be helpful and add real value to the lives of those with whom you come in contact. 

The people building the largest online businesses today are not promoting the latest "magic wand" gimic. The people building big are promoting themselves. They are offering their assistance to those who would like it.

Big MLM Tip of the Day: Build It Once, Build It for Life

That is the promise of MLM. 

You are told that you can built it and retire and the checks will keep rolling in. 

As long as you are with a reputable company, this is the case. Sadly, there are a lot of MLM companies out there that sneak things into their policies and procedures that allow them to confiscate your check, and there is nothing you can do about it. 

It is in the contract you agreed to. Read your contract carefully. 

There are many stories of people who built huge organizations only to lose it all. Don't let this happen to you.

It's Been a Week and I'm LOVING It!

Hello all. I just wanted to say that it has been a week since I started this new blog and I'm really happy that so many have already found it a valuable resource. I want to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has been so helpful and given me such great feedback. 

The plan is to cover a lot of material on a variety of topics. In the coming weeks we will look at several areas of a successful network marketing business. Some of these topics will require a bit more information to be relayed, so keep an eye out for the series posts that will be coming soon. These will be anywhere from3 to 5 parts series on a particular subject. 

A strong focus of this blog will be on why previous MLM failure is not your fault. We will also discuss other topics such as how to create MLM business leads, being a mentor and other methods to help grow your MLM business.

Big MLM Tip of the Day: It's Not Your Fault

If you have failed I network marketing before, welcome to the club. MLM failure is a common occurrence.

Most of us have. Sometimes it's the company, and often it is antiquated teaching from the upline. 

The proper training, inducing how to select a company, can make all the difference. This does not need to cost a small fortune either. There is a lot of great training available for free if you know where to look.

Stop Selling - And Make More Money?

Big MLM Tip of the Day: Timing is Everything

Timing will make a big difference. Beware of new start ups and the much hyped "prelaunch" promotions.

Roughly 98%, including network marketing companies, are gone within 4 years. 

Some of the prelaunch programs you see will never be a program. They have no intention of actually having a company. They will use special incentives to get tons of people to sign up and then promote the site to get others to sign up.

Just before the launch date, they simply disappear. Now they have a very large list of all the people who have signed up and they can sell these as “targeted leads"

This is one of the reasons why buying leads is always a rip off, but that is a tip for another day. 

On the other hand, a company that has been around 20 or more years runs the risk of flat lining, meaning that they experience very little growth. 

The biggest growth in a network marketing company is usually between years 4 and 10, but growth can remain fairly good for several more years depending on the company structure and products available. 

Do your homework on any company you are thinking of joining.

Big MLM Tip of the Day Do Your Homework

You should research any company before you consider joining. Most MLM failure can be tracked back to a poorly run company.

Do a Google search on the company and put the word "scam" after the company name. 

Do searches on the company owners and the person trying to recruit you. If the website does not list an owner's name or some sort of contact info, RUN. See what kind of experience these people have. 

From there you can make a more informed decision.

Big MLM Tip of the Day: MLM is NOT a Sales Business

Fact: Almost all sales jobs have a 60 to 80% attrition rate, before a single sale has bee made. Why would you follow such a failed model? 

MLM is a people business, or more accurately, a mentoring and coaching business. 

If you are trying to sell people, you are setting yourself up for failure. If you focus on building relationships, your business will grow as a byproduct. 

Just know, many of the people you get to know may not join your business, and that's okay. Be just as helpful to those people as you are to the people who join your business.

If what you are doing is not duplicatable, don't expect your team to be getting similar results. 

Be extra cautious of this if you are a whiz with technology. Most people are not, and they will be looking to YOU for help.

Big MLM Tip of the Day: It' All About You

When you promote your business, what is your focus? Do you focus o the products, pay plan, or company history? 

Studies show that the most important things to a prospect, when listening to a presentation are:

  • The person giving the presentation
  • Upline support
  • Can you help THEM?
So why do so many people focus on companies or products when prospects really only want to know about YOU? 

Focus on what you can do for them and worry about the details later if they are still interested.

Big MLM Tip of the Day: Read Your Contract

Do you know what is in your contract? Do you even know where it is? 

Most people would answer no to both questions. Would you be surprised to know that most MLM companies include clauses such as being able to cancel your contract in 30 days with a written notice with or without cause? 

Some even have sponsoring requirements or minimum sales to maintain. If you do not meet the requirements, they can shut you down. 

This actually happens quite frequently. 

Once you know what these requirements are you can make a decision as to whether this is good for you. 

When reading the policies and procedures, I would suggest starting at the last section. They always save the bad stuff for the end. Bottom line, read your contract. 

I hate hearing about people who built a business only to have it ripped away from them.

Big MLM Tip of the Day: Making a list of your friends and family will never work.

Welcome to “Networking how to: 101”.  

Have you joined a company and they told you to make a list of your friends and family or people you have known since grade school? These are supposed to be your “warm leads”. 

That is where most people are told to start, and has a great deal to do with why so many people quit without sponsoring anyone. 


The people who know you best are usually the least likely to follow you. Sure, you'll set appointments. They all want to do you a favor, but most have no intention of signing up. 

It is better to save this "warm market" for later when you can show then that it is working for you, and how you can help them. Remember, these people know you quite well. Unless you are already an outstanding leader, they will not think of you that way until they see evidence of it. 

Also, what happens when you run out of these warm leads? Many people give up because they have exhausted their leads with nothing to show for it.
