No matter how much we talk about this, many people out there still do not see the dangers of buying leads.
Recently I have spoken with a few different people on this topic as it came up in conversation. These people were following a different "Prospecting System". One started telling me what a great thing it was that their program leaders were going to start selling leads. He was concerned that he may not be able to afford them at first, to which I tried to explain why he should have his money. He never replied back to that particular item, so I am not sure if he understood what I meant. I hope so.
Inadvertently, this young man hit on one of the biggest problems with buying leads. It is not duplicatable. Most people, when first starting out with MLM are on a very limited budget. They will not be able to afford to buy leads. This can be discouraging. After all, you found them that way, so they think that is what they need to do to find others.
The other issue is, most of the leads you buy are garbage. They are names that got on a list somehow, and now have been passed around so many times that they are getting calls daily from people trying to pitch something else to them. What kind of odds do you think you will have with someone who is already fed up with people calling?
Another one I ran across a couple times was opted-in leads. I had a couple of people that were all excited about their program offering these. I hate to burst a bubble, but these folks needed to be educated to the dangers of doing this. Opted-in leads do not exist. There is no such thing. If the person did not specifically opt into YOUR list to receive YOUR messages, then they are NOT opted-in leads! I do not know how to make this any clearer. If someone tries to talk to you about opted-in leads, RUN! It is a scam, 100% of the time.
While on the subject of leads, and some of these "systems" out there, let me touch on one more thing. If soemone is promoting numbers like "get 50 leads a day", move right along. Two problems with that. ONE, there is no way these are targeted leads. I woudl greatly prefer to get 2 or 3 quality leads a day than 50 or more that are not targeted. TWO, how do you plan to follow up with 50 people every day? You will never be successful in this business if you do not call your leads. Do you have time to call 50 a day? Oh yeah, and don't forget about the ones who didn't answer yesterday that you need to try again, and the day before that, and... well, you get the idea. What a total waste of time. What good does it do to call 50 people or more a day only to find out that none of them are looking for what you have to offer? But, if you are calling highly targeted prospects, you will have much different results.
Alright, I'll get off my soap box now.

Big MLM Tip - Decisions
How many decisions do you make in a day? We decide whether or not to hit "snooze", what shirt to wear, what to have for breakfast, and that is all before our day even gets off to a good start.
Think about some of these decisions for a moment, and the impact they could have on your day. Let’s say you decide to skip breakfast one morning, and just grab a cup of coffee for the road. It takes you 5 minutes less time, and thereby causing you to get in an accident that you would have avoided had you eaten your normal breakfast. Now, how would your day have been different otherwise? You would not have been in that accident. You would not have been late for work. Your car would not be in the body shop, and the ripple effect of this would not cause a drain on your time and finances for months. All this from one simple decision.
I know that was an extreme example, but I use it to illustrate the importance of decisions. Call it a ripple effect, the butterfly effect, or whatever you like. Every decision you make has benefits and/or consequences. Some are much less obvious than in the example above, and others much more.
Many decisions have a cumulative effect. One decision leads us to make another, and another until things have gotten so far off track that our lives are no longer recognizable. How many people have you known in your life who just cannot ever seem to get anywhere in life? Is it some cosmic cloud that hangs over them? Or maybe they just do not know any better, so they keep getting into trouble? Or, do you think it is more likely that they know better, but through a series of bad decisions, they have gotten into this rut. Now, thanks to the programming in their brain that was caused by their situation, which was in turn caused by their decisions, they continue to make bad decisions.
The worst part is, once you let the bad programming in, it spreads like a virus. It causes you to make bad decisions in other areas of your life. Now, rather than just making poor financial decisions, this person has started to make poor decisions on relationships and every other aspect of their lives. Most addicts you find got that way from this same cycle of bad decisions.
We like to compartmentalize different areas of our lives, but in reality, it is all intertwined. Your finances, marriage, relationships with your kids, extended family, co-workers and every other aspect of your life are directly affected by your decisions.
Take the above example. One decision to skip breakfast cased at least one wrecked car, a financial burden on both parties involved, regardless of who was at fault, lost productivity since you were late for work, worry to your spouse that you are alright, and these are just the immediate damages. How much time will it have cost you in dealing with the insurance companies, body shops and others? What about money? Do you have rental car reimbursement? What will be going through your mind every time to pass that spot in the road for the next several months? What will happen to your insurance rates? What about the other person’s insurance? None of this even considers that someone may have been injured.
I think you get the point. If one seemingly innocent decision can have such drastic effects, then it should come as no surprise when bad money decisions start to take over a person’s life. It could start as simply as defaulting on one credit card, and before long it has escalated to the point of filing for bankruptcy, foreclosure, repossession and potentially even divorce.
Now, there is hope. No matter how many bad decisions you have made, or where you are in life now, it can all be turned around. And actually, it is much easier than you may think. The trick is, you have to get control of what is going into your mind. Control the flow of input, and you can take control of the thought patterns that flow out. This is the way to transform your life into what you may have only dreamt of before.
Do not wait for things to get bad (or worse). Start making a difference TODAY!
Not tomorrow...
Not next week...
Not after you file bankruptcy, or get a divorce...
BUT NOW!
Take control of YOUR MIND!
Email me and I will show you how to get started.

Big MLM Tip - Appreciate Your Day Job
Many people, when they are first starting out, see their day job as a negative, and even a liability when it comes to talking with prospects. They feel it detracts from their credibility to be still working a day job. Nothing could be farther from the truth.
I'm here to tell you, be grateful for your job. Without it, how would you keep your bills paid while building your business? Especially with the job market the way it has been for the past few years, if you are fortunate enough to have not been laid off during that time, you should be extra grateful. Many people had to put their dreams of building their businesses on hold to handle the more immediate need of keeping food on their tables. While we all hope to work our way out of a job, we should be grateful for that job in the meantime because it is what gives us the opportunity to build our business.
If you see your job as a liability, you are looking at it all wrong. Your job is an asset to you while building your business. Not only is it what sustains you, but it should also serve as a positive when talking to prospects. Think of it this way, if you wanted to open a retail shop down the road, it would require all of your time and resources. There is no way you could maintain your current job and still do that. In fact, you would be required to leave whatever job and income you are currently owning behind on the hopes that this new venture will pay off. Often times you must have enough savings to support you fro at least a year because you cannot expect to profit from that business for that long.
With network marketing, you can keep your job, and your income, and maintain what you currently have while building your business. Why upset the apple cart if you do not have to? Therefore, the next time a prospect asks you if you are full time in your business yet, turn it into a positive. Try saying something like, "Thank goodness I do not have to be. That's the best part of this type of business, I can keep living at the same standard I'm used to until my lifestyle is increased by my business".
I hope this helps some of you. I know that I was in that camp of people who absolutely could not stand the fact that I was still working, but I realized that this was a flawed mindset. I've spoken before abotu where your focus lies. If you are focused on the negative of having to go to that job, then negative will be returned upon you. If you focus on the positive, such as what a blessing it is to have that job, then positive will be what you receive.

Big MLM Tip - Are You in a Hurry?
Who isn't? It seems that everyone is in a hurry to get somewhere or get something done. Our world continues to become more fast paced. With almost anything you need available at your fingertips, we become less likely to wait for much of anything.
Let me share an experience I had this morning. While driving into my day job, traffic hit a bit of a snag. Once things cleared a bit it became obvious what the problem was. There was a car in the right hand lane moving along at barely over 1/2 the posted speed limit. I was finally able to get over a lane and go around this cart, and as you would expect, it was an elderly woman driving the slower car.
While in years past, I would have gotten extremely irritated, this time I did not. My reaction was so different that it surprised even me.
My response was one of admiration with a hint of envy. Here were all these people rushing to get somewhere, and in the midst of it all, this woman was taking her time, doing her own thing, on her own schedule. I saw no less than 20 cars pass her in the span of a minute or two, and she did not appear to be concerned about it in the slightest.
How wonderful is that? This is what I want. No, not driving slowly. I’ll still have a hard time staying under the speed limit. What I look forward to is not needing to always be in a hurry, to be able to take my time, relax and enjoy life.

Big MLM Tip - Work or Activity?
Most of us start out as part timers. We work a full time job and work our business in our spare time. Also, most of us are doing this to make more money, so until we start making some, we have limited budgets.
If you have limited time, and a limited budget, I urge you not to waste either. We will discuss your monetary budget tomorrow, but for today, we want to look at time.
So, back to the post title, "Work or Activity". Or maybe a better way to word it would be "Productive or Busy?" Are you working your business in a productive manner or are you simply busy with activity?I hear from people all the time that cannot understand why their business is not growing even though they are always busy. The problem usually lies in what they are busy doing. Here is an example of what I mean.
A Wasted Day:
- 6:30 AM - Climb out of bed and get ready for work
- 7:00 AM - Hop in the car, turn on the radio and drive to work. Arrive and start working at 8:00
- 12:00 PM - head to lunch with co-workers, sit and talk about office politics; or, grab your lunch and watch youtube videos for an hour.
- 5:00 PM - Hop back in the car, turn the radio back on, and drive home.
- 6:00 PM - Arrive home, greet the family, get dinner ready, watch TV while you eat, watch soem more TV while dinner "settles"
- 8:00 PM - Turn on the computer, spend 30 minutes reading useless emails, another hour chatting with a friend on Facebook, and oh yeah, spend 15 minutes posting your blog for the day. Spend another 30 minutes or so doing some back-linking, or surfing traffic exchanges before remembering to check the items you are watching on eBay.
- 10:00 PM - It's been a long day, so you decide you have worked for two hours and now you'll watch some TV for a while before bed time.
- Some time later - You eventually go take a shower and crawl into the bed, exhausted and wondering how you can go on at this pace.
An Optimized Day:
- 6:30 AM - Say your self talk, climb out of bed and get ready for work. Say your self talk a few more times while getting ready
- 7:00 AM - Hop in the car, say your self talk, turn on the motivational CD or MP3 and drive to work. Arrive and start working at 8:00
- 12:00 PM - Heat your lunch in the microwave, Post your blog post for the day, share it on Facebook and everywhere else, check your facebook groups for activity and reply to the posts directly mentioning you. Back to work at 1:00
- 5:00 PM - Hop back in the car, grab your earpiece and call on some prospects while you drive home. Maybe call your sponsor or listen to the rest of that CD you started this morning.
- 6:00 PM - Arrive home, greet the family, get dinner ready, spend time talking with your family at the dinner table. Excuse yourself after dinner to make another attempt at contacting some prospects you could not catch at home earlier. Spend some more time with your family. If you have kids, this is your time with them. You will have plenty more time later, so make the most of what limited time you have with them now.
- 8:00 PM - Turn on the computer, spend 10-15 minutes deleting useless emails and replying to the critical ones.spend another 30 minutes or so following up with your prospects online. Stop by Facebook to check activity in your groups and on your wall. ONLY respond to items that require your attention or will help foster relationships. Be brief and try to spend no more than 15-30 minutes on this. Spend another solid 30 minutes creating backlinks. Maybe it's social bookmarking, or writing/posting an article (you should be backlinking every day). The next half hour or so you spend researching and writing your blog post for the following day.
- 10:00 PM - You are spent, but it has been productive. Now you go back and read those funny emails, or watch that youtube video of the dog water skiing. You enjoy some time to yourself, then one more quick glance at your email to be sure nothing important came through, and it's off to bed.
Do you see the difference? You were just as busy in the first example as in the second. The difference is what was accomplished in that same amount of time. So, I'll ask again, "Are you productive or just busy?"

BIG mlm Tip - A Mind is a Terrible Thing...
Were you expecting more to that title? Not this time. The mind is more powerful than we have yet to imagine. It can be your greatest asset, or your own worst enemy.
If you have a handle on what is being allowed into your mind, it will serve you well. Let the world around you flood your mind with all its negative puke and your mind will turn on you like a rabid Pitt bull, only you won't even realize it.
If you plan to be successful in life or business, you have got to get rid of those negative influences. Are you watching the nightly news? Take a long look at what you watch, read or listen to.
What about your music? Do you listen to angry rock music that displays a hatred for the world or hateful hip hop that portrays violence. Even most pop music of today is a cesspool of negative emotion.
I challenge you to join me in clearing the clutter from your brain take 100% responsibility for everything that goes into your mind. Are you ready to take control? Then turn off the TV,radio, Internet news sites and focus all of your attention inward. Only allow positive input. Do this for 30 days and it will change your life. But, you don't have to do it alone. Contact me and I will get you plugged into a support system.
Take ownership of your mind. Stop renting it out to anyone who comes along with something to say.

Big MLM Tip - Are We Having Fun Yet?
Network marketing really is a fun business. It may seem daunting at first, but once things start moving along, and you start to build confidence, it becomes a joy to talk to people. If you are just starting out, let me give you an example.
Think of the last time you did something you really enjoyed. Maybe it was a vacation, attending a sporting event, or some other activity. How did you feel when you were telling your friends about it later? Right, you were excited to tell anyone who would stand still and listen. There was no fear or hesitation. Quite the opposite, you could not wait to tell someone about it.
So, why does something like this come so easily, but talking to someone about your network marketing business is like pulling teeth? There are two reasons.
First, you had so much fun you are still excited about it. The excitement in your voice is obvious.
Secondly, you have no agenda. This removes all pressure. Your only desire is to share this experience so that someone else may get some enjoyment from it.
Once you learn to have fun with it, it will come much easier. But, you will never learn to have fun with your business if you don't drop your agenda. Once you learn to just have fun with it, you will see a significant increase in numbers. This comes easier when you gain experience.
For the beginner, I would recommend you go back to the first exercise in this post. Imagine you are telling the story of that recent trip or activity. Use this as the model when speaking to prospects. You may not be that excited yet, but if you believe you are, you will make it true.
As Michael Dlouhy is so fond of saying, “If you are not having fun with your network marketing business, you’re doing it wrong”. Are you having fun?
